Listing Summary
Design and deliver municipal and private water, sanitary, and stormwater projects alongside our Senior Wastewater Program Manager, in a practice we are actively growing. Hiring at the Engineer (EIT) or Senior Engineer (PE) level.
About this role
Racey Engineering is expanding its water and wastewater practice and is hiring a Water / Wastewater Engineer to design and deliver municipal and private water, sanitary, and stormwater projects. You will work alongside our Senior Wastewater Program Manager on a growing portfolio, owning the design and delivery of your own assignments and contributing to the practice and its client base across Virginia.
We hire at two levels. Engineers join as EITs working toward a Virginia PE, with a defined path and a pay step when licensed. Engineers' work is reviewed and sealed by our licensed engineers while they build toward their own license. Senior Engineers hold the PE and serve as Engineer of Record on their own assignments.
Duties and Responsibilities

- Lead planning and design of water distribution and transmission systems, sanitary sewer collection, pump stations, force mains, and stormwater conveyance.
- Perform hydraulic modeling in WaterCAD, SewerCAD, or equivalent.
- Prepare preliminary engineering reports, master plans, capacity analyses, and condition assessments.
- Develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for competitive bid or negotiated construction.
- Support treatment plant projects - process evaluation, upgrades, and hydraulic profile analysis - coordinating with process specialists as needed.
- Serve as Racey's primary technical contact for assigned water and wastewater clients, and coordinate with municipal utilities and public service authorities.
- Prepare and submit permit applications through VDEQ (VPDES, VWPP, VPA), VDH Waterworks, and USACE.
- Own project scope, schedule, and fee budget; prepare proposals and scope amendments.
- Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs during construction, and support startup, testing, and commissioning.
