Description
We are looking for a mid-level structural engineer with building design experience. At a firm our size you are not a spreadsheet operator two layers from the drawing - you consult directly with architects, owners, and other disciplines, and you own your designs from concept through construction.
Ideal candidates are independent thinkers who communicate proactively and like collaborating across disciplines.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
- Apply structural concepts, codes, and practices to complex projects, developing design solutions as needed.
- Develop plans and details for foundations, buildings, and structures from preliminary concepts, sketches, and calculations.
- Build structural models and project drawings in Revit and AutoCAD at the appropriate SD, DD, and CD level.
- Consult with engineers, architects, owners, and stakeholders on building engineering projects.
- Coordinate with architecture and the civil, environmental, electrical, and mechanical disciplines.
- Conduct site visits through planning, design, and construction to inspect field conditions and evaluate quality of work.
- Review construction progress reports, shop drawings, material lists, and submittals.
- Take on design and project management responsibilities scaled to your experience, with mentoring from our licensed team.
Requirements
- BS in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structural design.
- Three or more years of progressively responsible building structural engineering experience, including coordinating projects through design and construction.
- Experience designing steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, cold-formed, and PEMB structures.
- Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE, AISC, NDS, and ACI.
- Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD - Revit strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of construction industry practices, quality control, and safety requirements.
- Ability to prioritize and run multiple projects simultaneously.
- Driver's license in good standing.
Preferred Qualifications
- PE license in Virginia, or eligibility to sit for the exam.
- Bridge structures and construction engineering experience.
- Analysis and modeling in SkyCIV, RISA, or CSI products.
- Willingness to manage projects and client/agency interactions
Physical Requirements, Travel, and Schedule
- Full-time, hybrid based out of the Luray, VA or Roanoke, VA offices, or remote with experience.
- Site visits during design and construction; ability to navigate uneven terrain.
- Must be able to pass a drug screening.
